Recreational Vehicle Industry Association Wins Silver at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards
18/11/2015
The Victorian Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow was presented with a Silver Victorian Tourism Award in the category of Major Festivals and Events last night at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards gala event at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Supershow was up against other major event nominations including the Australian Open, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, the Royal Melbourne Show and the 2014 Melbourne Cup Carnival, which took out Gold.
The Silver winner is awarded to the second highest scoring entrant in their selected category.
“We had two objectives when we started the submission process for the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards. Firstly we wanted our systems reviewed by an outside source to create best practise and secondly to be seen as a legitimate partner in the tourism industry,” says Rob Lucas, CEO of the Caravan Industry Association Victoria.
The Caravan Industry Association Victoria (CIA VIC) has staged annual shows since 1954 and supports a multi-billion dollar industry, with the vast majority of the country’s manufacturers based here within Victoria. Today, the Victorian Caravan, Camping and Touring Supershow is the largest travel and lifestyle show in the state.
The show costs more than $1 million to stage, but generates an incredible approximately $50 million in sales of recreational vehicles, camping equipment and accessories over its six days.
“Winning the award has been a wonderful reward for a fantastic team effort from everyone involved including the participating exhibitors and our own team who were responsible for the long-term planning and roll-out of this event,” continues Rob Lucas.
Preparations for the 2016 Victorian Caravan Camping & Touring Supershow at Melbourne Showgrounds from 24-29th February are underway and the association is hard at work to ensure the biggest and best show yet.
